The Shepherd’s Bible College offers both a Certificate in Christian Studies and a Diploma in Biblical Studies. What is the difference? The differences boil down to three key areas – time, depth, direction
The Shepherd’s Bible College’s certificate programme is a 60 credit programme. Typically a 60 credit programme would take a full time student around half a year to complete. However, at TSBC we spread this program over a full year to allow students to work part or full time while they study.
TSBC’s diploma is a 12 month full time programme of study. Many students complete the programme in one year, though many also work away at it over two or three years and work part or full time while they study.
Because the Certificate entails around half the time, it also has about half the depth. However, TSBC’s certificate programme has three courses that are unique to it, including Work and Productivity, Devotional Living and a missions trip. These three courses are part of what makes the certificate programme ideal for a gap year.
While the Diploma programme doesn’t have the three courses mentioned above, it does have the Bible Survey classes, Internship Experience and some electives. Bible Survey classes bring the Scriptures to life, revealing where history and the Word of God intersect, while the electives allow you to dig into areas of specific interest.
The Certificate in Christian Studies is desgined to provide a foundation for life, preparing students for the workplace, the university, and we pray later leadership in the church. It is expected that after graduating from this programme, students will go on to make a significant contribution to society in a regular occupation.
The diploma programme is focused on providing a solid foundation for service in the church in a lay or leadership capacity. It also provides a foundation for further theological education. Several of our students have gone on to complete additional schooling and even pastor churches.
As the Shepherd’s Bible College looks to the future, the Diploma programme will serve as the foundation for programmes we hope to begin in the near future. Stay tuned!
